Help Using Zoom

OUR ZOOM MEETINGS ARE SUSPENDED.
Contact us if you need to connect this way.

49 George Street (Community Hall) Burwood

The advice below is our guide to using Zoom, which may be useful if we resume.

[Click this link!  If you are asked to download Zoom on your device, do so.  Give your device permissions to use the services requested - video, microphone, etc.  Type in your name when asked.

Permission to unmute: The first time, you may be asked if you want to give the host permission to unmute you.  This is convenient for musicians.  You don't have to agree, but you can if you like.

SUNDAY Link
(Check commencement time on our front page- typically 2:45 pm Australian Eastern Time (UTC+10 (Standard),
UTC+11 (Summer-Daylight Saving):

You will be in the waiting room.  If you come in good faith, we will welcome you in!

We will try to use the same link each week, but may need to change it sometimes.  If your last link isn't working for you, come back to this page to check.

We look forward to seeing you in worship!  Sunday, prescribed time (see above), for no more than about an hour.

Most of the rest of this is for people who are new to having a service by Zoom.

If you don't see the controls, tap your finger near the bottom of the screen (or click your mouse there).

If there is a slash (line) through your microphone control, you can't be heard (you're muted).

This is a good idea most of the time.  If you're a reader or solo singer, you need to "unmute".  Click the text underneath the microphone and it changes.

We can't have our microphones on when we sing together, because the sound isn't synchronised across the internet.  It will always be out-of-time.
But sing in your home with the microphone off!  We can turn your microphone off if you forget.

If you need to, you can turn off your camera.  However, it's good to have it on.  It's good to show your face so that we can feel encouraged by your visual presence.
The camera icon works the same way as the microphone.  If there's a slash through it, you won't be seen - just your name or whatever your device has stored to identify you.  Click the button to change it.

You can change between Gallery and Speaker view.  Speaker view just shows the person who's speaking.  Gallery view lets you see all the crowd - although if there are many, you may need to use your finger or your mouse to move between screens.

There is a Chat option which lets you send messages inside the meeting.  You don't have to use this.  It's good to know about, though.  If you're having some trouble, you can send a Chat message.

There are some differences between how controls are placed in Zoom, depending on what device you have.  The principles are much the same.  Look around for options in other places if you don't find them where you first expect.  One tip: if you see "...", it's a symbol to say there are more hidden setting options at that place.  Click "..." and you will see them.

Our service will not be long.  We are no longer using a free Zoom account, but still aim not to go longer than 40 minutes.]
